At St Christopher’s The Hall, creativity and expression are at the heart of everything we do.

Through outstanding provision in Music, Art, and Drama, we nurture imagination, build confidence, and give every child the opportunity to shine in their own unique way.

Music

The Music Department at St Christopher’s is a thriving centre of creativity, performance, and innovation. For us, music is more than a subject - it’s a language of joy, discipline, and self-expression. Every child is encouraged to explore their musical potential through a rich and varied curriculum that blends practical music-making with an understanding of theory and history.

From whole-class instrumental work to singing, ensemble playing, and composition, pupils experience a wide range of musical styles, genres and approaches. With the advancement of new technology, pupils enhance their learning using music software and apps to compose, arrange, and refine their own pieces. Our dedicated team of visiting instrumental and vocal teachers, provided through our affiliation with BYMT (Bromley Youth Music Trust), deliver individual lessons in piano, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. We are proud to partner with BYMT, whose outstanding musicians bring expertise, inspiration, and high-quality teaching to our pupils.

Performance is at the heart of what we do. With regular concerts - both within school and outside - we are able to offer every pupil the chance to share their talents or appreciate those of their peers. We also take advantage of our proximity to some of the world’s greatest musical venues, both to visit as audience members and also as performers. Our recent performances include our massed choirs at the Royal Festival Hall combining with other choirs of St Dunstan’s Education Group; Evensong and Carol Services at Southwark Cathedral and Young Voices at the O2. More local performance opportunities have been in our local parish church of St George's, Beckenham and singing at local care homes.

Art

At St Christopher’s, Art is a bold and inspiring journey into the visual world. It is not just about making, it’s about thinking, questioning, and seeing the world through different eyes. It’s where talent is nurtured and expression is celebrated. We believe every child is an artist, and our curriculum is designed to spark imagination, develop technique, and encourage individual expression from the very start of a pupil’s journey with us.

Our pupils work with a wide range of media - from paint, clay and charcoal to digital illustration and mixed-media sculpture, learning both traditional methods and contemporary approaches. Each project is designed to develop both technical skill and creative confidence, allowing pupils to express their ideas, explore identity, and connect with cultures and artistic movements from around the world.

Trips to leading London galleries provide first-hand inspiration and deepen pupils’ understanding of great art. In school, creativity is proudly celebrated through regular exhibitions and displays, including our very own St Christopher’s Art Gallery, a dedicated space where pupils’ work is professionally mounted and showcased to the school community.

Drama

Drama is a cornerstone of our creative curriculum, a space where imagination, confidence, and collaboration come to life. Every pupil enjoys weekly Drama lessons, from Preschool through to Year 6, taught in our dedicated Drama studio - a specialist facility that allows creativity to flourish.

From their earliest years, pupils are introduced to performance through storytelling, improvisation, role-play, and movement. These experiences build skills for acting and stagecraft while nurturing vital life skills such as developing confident communication, empathy, and emotional intelligence. As they progress, pupils take part in increasingly ambitious productions, from nativity plays to full-scale performances, gaining confidence in public speaking, collaboration, and creative expression.

Older pupils also film-making, learning skills in acting for camera, scripting, storyboarding, and directing. This gives them a broader understanding of performance in the modern world while encouraging teamwork and technical confidence. Our programme is further enriched by visiting theatre companies and inspiring workshops, while trips to renowned West End productions expose pupils to world-class theatre, sparking creativity and raising aspirations for their future.
