Congratulations to the St. Christopher's Swimming Team, who competed at the 25th English Schools Swimming Championships on Saturday 15th June in Sheffield.
The team arrived after a three hour train journey and were very excited to be finally be in Sheffield.
They had a short warm up and then posed for lots of team photos with the official photographer. The event opened with a parade of schools captains around the pool from each division and then each captain was presented with a special 70 year pin badge.
It was soon our time to swim. The first relay was the freestyle relay. There were 24 schools competing and St. Christopher's swam amazingly, taking another 3 seconds off our entry time and placing us 9th. This meant that we just missed the A finals but placed us 1st fastest in the B finals . In the finals, the team swam again and managed to move their position to 8th out of 24 schools.
Next up was the Medley Relay. Again the swimmers performed incredibly well, taking off over 3 seconds on their entry times. They finished 9th out of 24 schools with an amazing 1st place in the B finals.
The swimmers had come 8th and 9th out of over 300 medium schools who had entered this competition and competed to make the top 24 in England. For a small school from Beckenham, this team has been absolutely amazing. Their hard work, dedication and commitment has been unbelievable and they should be so proud of what they have achieved. To make the English Schools National Swimming Championship and do as well as they did.
Congratulations to Captain Isabelle Traynier, Nell Bruin, Jessica Shiu and Nathanial Sawyer.
Also a big thank you to their parents who have been so supportive to my training demands and all the endless driving up and down the country.
Well done Team of 2019 Nationals
