Places in Kindergarten are allocated on a first come, first served basis, following a meeting with the Headmaster. The School operates a waiting list, run by the Admissions Secretary.
The children start Lower Kindergarten in the term in which they are three. Classes are small, and staff to pupil ratio high. During the early years, education through activity and play is encouraged. Children are also taught the basic skills leading to reading, writing and number work. This fun, 'hands-on' approach provides an essential foundation on which to build as the children progress through the school.
Children in the Lower Kindergarten move to the Upper Kindergarten class in the September following their third birthday. Here they remain in classes of 15 for the whole year, following which most take up places in the Reception at St. Christopher’s. The Early Years is moderated regularly by the Local Education Authority, as well as the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
