Welcome Back - Letter from the Headmaster, Michaelmas Term 2019

Welcome back to Michaelmas Term 2019 and I hope that you have had a great summer break...

5th September 2019

Dear All

Welcome back to Michaelmas Term 2019 and I hope that you have had a great summer break.

We welcome to St. Christopher’s Mr Pretara (Y3), Mr Lunn (Y5, Director of Studies), Miss Harris (Y1 Maternity cover) and Miss Atkinson (Y4/6), together with all our Kindergarten children who have progressed into Reception and all the brand new families to school.

Congratulations and Good Luck to newly appointed Head Girl, Hesper Holden and Head Boy, Hector Rose who start their duties forthwith.  All other Y6 positions of responsibility will be announced in assembly this Friday.

The Michaelmas Term, while being the longest term in the year is already packed with events, including examination week, numerous sports fixtures, the SCA Christmas Fair, Nativity plays and the Carol Service to name but a few.  A calendar including all the term dates will be available in due course. May I particularly draw your attention to a Wellbeing Forum for parents which will be presented by Mrs Rudge on Wednesday 25th September at 6 p.m.

Although we have been quite lenient over these first few days with regards to allowing parents into school in the morning, please note that from Monday we would appreciate if you would kindly note the following.  Kindergarten parents are allowed to escort their children to their classrooms every morning. Reception parents likewise up until half term. No other parents should enter the school and should make an effort to drop off at the gate.  If entry is required, it should be done via the Office. This assists security within the school and promotes the prompt start to the day.

In order to maximise the safety of our children particularly at drop off and pick up times, would you kindly adhere to the parking restrictions in the front of the school and also refrain from parking inconsiderately in relation to our neighbours.

I hope that you agree that the installation of wrought iron fencing to the front of the school along with a lick of paint has greatly improved the appearance while making the courtyard a safer collection point.  In addition, the field has recovered over the break and is now green and lush.

Prep school afternoon games include hockey and rugby this term (gum shields required) while years 2,3 & 4 will swim every Thursday starting 12th September at The Spa.

Please note we will stay with summer uniform until half term at which point we will change to winter uniform.

Finally, I am delighted to inform you that Miss Wooderson is expecting her first child.  She will start maternity leave in January with cover to be confirmed shortly. I am sure you will join me in wishing Miss Wooderson Good Luck during the process.

I wish you a productive and enjoyable term.

Yours sincerely

ANDREW VELASCO
