Swimming Sensations

Our relay team had an amazing night at the South East Primary Schools Championship and are on the path to national glory....

On Saturday night, these four travelled to Guildford along with their team of supporters to take part in the South East Primary Schools Championship where they would compete against the best 18 schools from across the South East. The team had qualified for the freestyle and medley relay and were hoping that they may be in with a chance of going to Nationals.
The team qualified on a time of 1.06.52 for the freestyle relay.  There were 18 other schools who had also qualified and all 8 schools wanted to be in the final but there were only 8 places. There were two heats and we were in the second heat. In the first heat 5 schools had swam faster then our entry time so we know we had to swim close to or better than our entry time.
The race was so exciting and so close. St Christopher’s fought all of the way and finished with a time of 1.03.91 placing them 1st fastest to qualify for the finals. I knew in the finals that the other schools would be chasing the top 3 places and we would have to work hard! Our swimmers were swam amazingly well in finals and again swam a slightly faster time of 1.03.47 putting them in 3rd position, which secured a place at Nationals!
Next up, the Medley relay team entered on a time of 1.16.30 which equated with 10 other schools. The swimmers performed superbly and they were placed 3rd fastest into the finals. In the final it was very close between the top 3 schools and again, St Christopher’s took 3rd Place again securing them a place at Nationals!
An exciting night with such amazingly impressive swims. Captain Isabelle Traynier, Nell Bruin, Jessica Shiu and Nathaniel Sawyer were truly amazing, professional and they showed such a positive team spirit. The team will be travelling to Sheffield on Saturday, 16th June to compete at the National Primary Schools Championships. What a fantastic achievement for the team and for the school!
