Shocking Success!

Thank you for your amazing support for our defibrillator fundraising last term.  We had aimed to raise enough to buy two defibrillators, but were able to purchase six!...

Dear Children,

I am sure most of you remember that towards the end of the Summer Term 2019; Carly, Jodie and Ann from www.carlyhearttrust.com came to our school and presented an interactive and informative assembly to us, (Reception - Year 6) explaining what a defibrillator is and how it can save lives. You listened attentively and lots of you asked excellent questions.

As a result, we all decided that it would be great as a school to raise money for our own defibrillator, so we organised a sponsored ‘dance and fun run’ event called “HEARTBEATS”.

We all came to school in our House PE kits and spent the afternoon as a whole school (roughly 230 children) on the field following the actions to various songs such as ‘YMCA’ and ‘The Macarena’. We then went for a whole school fun jog around our field. All children from age 5-11 took part and mixed together; running, skipping, laughing and having fun.

Finally, our lovely SCA provided us all with a lolly which was gratefully received.

The last update on our school website towards the end of the Summer Term stated that we had raised enough money for 2 defibrillators which is amazing, however we now have a further update..

Having now received all of the sponsorship money, I am delighted to say that you, your families and friends have collectively raised enough money for...

Children, this is absolutely incredible! Who knows how many lives will be saved thanks to the generosity of your sponsors?!

Here are some vital statistics which explains the value of the money you have raised:

‘In the event of a cardiac arrest, if defibrillated within the first minute of collapse, the victim's chances for survival are close to 90 percent. For every minute that defibrillation is delayed, survival decreases by 7 percent to 10 percent. If it is delayed by more than 10 minutes, the chance of survival in adults is less than 5 percent.’

Our 6 defibrillators will be donated to:

  1. St. Christopher’s The Hall
  2. St. Barnabas Church, Beckenham
  3. St. George’s Church, Beckenham
  4. St. Mary’s Church, Shortlands
  5. St. Mary’s Primary, Clapham
  6. Richmond Youth Rugby Club

Thank you again to you wonderful children and your friends and families for your huge generosity.
