ISA Mixed Hockey Tournament

Well done to the team that competed at the ISA Mixed Hockey Tournament on Friday 7th February at Crystal Palace Park.

Due to poor weather last year this was our first outing to an ISA tournament. Hockey at St. Christopher's has been developing over the last few years and it was wonderful to see us play in a highly competitive atmosphere.

Our tournament began with us pitted against the hosts. With our shape in place, we started brightly and attacked from the off, scoring 2 goals. We then played Elmhurst, who were dogged in defence and didn’t allow us to settle, however we squeezed in 2 more goals. 2 wins out of 2!!  Our 3rd match was against  Oakfield, with confidence high we again soared into a comfortable 2 goal lead. It finished that way. These results placed us second in our group due to goal difference, so remaining undefeated from now would see us into the semi-finals.

Lewes Old Girls Grammar School, they had been watching us!! Into the game we went and stood firm, until some unrelentingly attack play pushed further into our area. We conceded 2 goals to lose to by far the best team we we had played. Our next 2 matches came quickly, and sadly we lost them, due to some unfortunate goalkeeping errors and some refereeing mishaps.  So due the last three results, from which we deserved at least 2 draws, we were knocked out.

The team performed very well. The improvements they have made as a team made the school so very proud. Well done to you all.
